  • Overview

    In this role, responsibilities will include investigative research to locate members and owners of unclaimed property and dormant account processing to avoid escheatment. This team member will process returned dormant account notices and complete annual reporting and remittance of funds to comply with state law requirements. Additional responsibilities include servicing of payments and fulfillment of service requests including check copies, statement copies, and account research. The successful candidate will possess excellent verbal communication skills and be a critical thinker who can investigate and research a variety of complex scenarios to recommend effective solutions while balancing compliance requirements.


    • Complete outbound calling of dormant accounts to locate account owners to engage in account activity and retention
    • Utilize various systems and tools to research owners and/or beneficiaries of dormant accounts and obtain current contact information
    • Initiate communication with members to request updated contact information such as address, phone numbers, and email addresses as needed
    • Complete reporting of escheated accounts including documentation of owners and account type
    • Remit funds to comply with escheatment requirements as outlined by state laws
    • Schedule escheatment activities to ensure timely filing of annual reports to comply with each state’s deadline
    • Remain abreast of unclaimed property laws and changes for holder reporting compliance
    • Complete timely processing of returned dormant notices and placement of account notations
    • Meet monthly goals of escheatment balance reduction to retain membership and grow participation
    • Back up servicing of incoming payments such as deposits, loan payments, account changes, certificate renewals and verification of deposits.
    • Responsible for accurately posting mailed checks for share deposits and loan payments to designated account with a high level of accuracy

    • Review each check received for acceptance and negotiability standards under Regulation CC; verify necessary endorsements, payee information and depository account prior to acceptance
    • Post contributions from Health Savings Account Employer groups to accounts including accurate tax reporting codes
    • Balance checks, teller drawer, and general ledgers including accounting center; ensure timely transmission for settlement and collection of payment
    • Back up account verification requests including Verification of Deposits, Social Security Administration Asset Verifications, and IRS Backup Withholding accurately and timely
    • Complete membership maintenance requests including address changes, account closure requests, name changes, and card replacement orders
    • Support internal staff members by answering incoming calls to the Help Line within service level standards
    • Process service requests including account research and check copy production within service level standards
    • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
    • Enthusiastically provide support for Credit Union goals



    • Must have High School Diploma/GED
    • Minimum 1 year of previous experience in Customer Service, Banking, or financial services
    • Working knowledge of Regulation CC and Funds Availability Policies
    • Working knowledge of funds escheatment including reporting requirements
    • Possess working knowledge of basic accounting principles
    • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Windows include Word, Excel and Outlook

    • Possess strong organizational skills and be detailed-oriented
    • Ability to follow instructions and work independently while exercising sound decision
    • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills and possess the ability to effectively communicate across all levels of team members and management
    • Possess excellent time management skills and multi-task between multiple priorities and deadlines
    • Demonstrates ability and desire to thrive in a challenging fast-paced work environment
    • Demonstrates versatility and flexibility with constantly changing priorities and tasks

    • This position is located in Merced, California
    • May require occasional travel to Patelco’s Corporate Headquarters in Pleasanton, CA
