  • Overview

    In this role, responsibilities will include, but not limited to: being the subject matter expert for general ledger account reconciliations and recording of day to day operational transactions, preparing specialized reports and analyses; developing accounting procedures and controls; business process re-engineering and providing leadership and assistance to lower level accounting personnel.   The successful candidate will have the ability to perform complex tasks requiring advanced professional experience, knowledge and competency in accounting principles and practices.   This position requires an organized, technically proficient accountant with an analytical mind and the ability to learn.  They will possess the ability to utilize critical thinking, discretion and judgment on assignments that are varied, diverse and difficult in nature. Possess the ability to embrace, and meet, the changing needs of the department.


    • Performs reconciliation of G/L accounts, identifying unusual trends or erroneous entries and verifying accuracy of transactions and balances
    • Responsible for accurate accounting of fixed assets, prepaids, investments and other transactions
    • Assists with month end accruals and expense variance research
    • Assists auditors (external and internal) by providing supporting documentation as requested
    • Researches and gathers financial data in response to management requests; prepares reports appropriate for senior level audience
    • Assist in the preparation of accounting memos providing documentation of the company’s application of accounting principles to specific transactions, as requested
    • Coordinate with other departments, including branches to obtain transaction information, research reconciling items, and resolve issues
    • Assists other team members with more complex questions to ensure accurate resolution and timely response
    • Works independently with other financial institutions to resolve out of balances and handles inquiries from other financial institutions
    • Reviews processes and procedures to streamline and enhance efficiencies by automating manual processes
    • Develop and document business processes to ensure compliance with Credit Union accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
    • Performs other duties as assigned


    • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or finance required
    • Four to six years of accounting experience is required
    • Demonstrated and thorough knowledge of accounting procedures
    • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
    • Financial institution experience preferred
    • Demonstrated ability to balance speed and accuracy in a fast paced work environment
    • Proactive approach to problem solving, demonstrating critical thinking skills. A self-starter with ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines
    • Excellent PC skills (Word, Project, Power Point, Access, etc.); advanced Excel skills
    • Working knowledge or Prologue Financials and Blackline a plus
    • Outstanding oral and written communication skills
    • Must be detail oriented and able to multi-task
    • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
    • Discretion and judgment required in dealing with changing and new situations
    • Ability to be well organized, team-player and motivated
    • Flexible with working long hours when needed
